You can determine whether your Toyota key has transponder chips by examining the blade of the key. Smart Keys Keys
If you own a Toyota equipped with smart key technology you might be able to open the doors and start the engine without ever taking your keys out of your purse or pocket. Take a photo of the old battery and note the location where the new battery will go in the case. This will help you put it together correctly. Key Fob Battery Replacement
The process of replacing the battery in your key fob isn't as difficult or time-consuming as it may appear. You can find replacement batteries at any big-box retailer or hardware store. You can also order them on the internet. A new battery isn't just cheap, but can also restore the correct function of your key fob.
The first step is to remove the key from the metal. A small metal button is typically located just above the key portion of the fob. Press it to release the key. Then, remove the fob. This can be accomplished by pressing the small notch on the fob which appears like a keyhole, or by inserting the flat tool into the smallest hole. Once you've split the fob into two pieces, a front and a back--sliding tools into the notch or small opening can let you access the battery compartment.
Take a look at the battery. It is likely to be silver-colored and shaped in circles. The battery will bear a mark that indicates the type of replacement battery you'll need. When you have replaced the battery, take the old battery out of its case and place the new one in. Be careful not to touch the flat surfaces of your battery. They are very receptive to fingerprints, and can reduce battery life.
Then, insert the key fob's case. If you're careful you shouldn't need to push it back into its position. If it isn't snapping into the position you want, gently apply pressure on the edges of the frame to separate it. Then, you can reattach the key made of metal and turn it on and verify that the fob functions correctly. Once everything is reassembled the key fob should be as good as new.
